My life with baby wipes!
Here’s our new Parent Panel mum Claire with her version of a ”day in the life…”
Before I had children I had never bought baby wipes. How times change. There is now a packet in almost every room of my house, in pretty much most bags I have, they are in my car, my husband’s car, in the grandparents’ houses and cars. Who knew they were a life’s essential? I didn’t, but I do now and this is why:
Around 07:00am I start the day and there’s a fresh nappy for Baby G x 2 wipes
The morning feeding fest known as breakfast – Baby G and Lil’ H hands & faces x 4 wipes
Close the “breakfast cafe” Highchair, toddler table & chair, floor x 5 wipes
Spy fresh honey toast sticky little finger marks on sofa x 1 wipe
Clean nappy for baby, this is their intended purpose after all x 3 wipes
Toothpaste on preschool sweatshirt (how? Teeth were cleaned before dressing) x 1 wipe
Baby pulling up & possibly licking *heave* pram wheels, face & hands x 2 wipes
On the way to pre-school Lil’ H drags hands along cars, filthy, dirty cars x 3 wipes
Notice dirty car hands have been wiped down his coat x 2 wipes
By drop off at pre-school around 8:45am we are 23 wipes down!
Snack time for Baby G and just face, hand wipe down, a modest x 2 wipes
Open the cafe for the lunchtime rush, two faces & four hands to clean up x 4 wipes
A fresh dry nappy for baby nap time x 1 wipe
Afternoon play date, Lil H discovered a chocolate coin whilst in car, chocolate clean up x 4 wipes
Stuck in traffic, clean dashboard & bit of front car interior, that’s multi-tasking & great use of time x 6 wipes
New dry nappy for Baby G x 2 wipes
Afternoon play date and snack – four faces & eight hands to clean up x 8 wipes
Teatime today’s special at “Cafe Lancaster” is the favourite Spaghetti Bolognese, garlic bread & yoghurts. Lil H eats well requiring just x 2 wipes, Baby G at 12months old likes to do it herself x 8 wipes!
Clear up – I am too slow and the bowls are pulled on to the floor and the leftovers spread artistically some might say over the floor *sigh* my own fault. That’ll be x 6 more wipes please.
Upstairs for baths and beds, just x 2 more required for a nappy change for Baby G. That’s 68 wipes since 7am, no really it is!
7pm ish the children are in bed asleep or on their way there surely you can put the wipes away now? Glass of wine in hand tidy the toys away for tomorrow, spot clean sofa x 2 more wipes
Couple of unidentified splatters on the wall in the hall a further x 2 wipes
Wine glass ring on the coffee table x 1 more wipe please.
Then a reprieve the packet of wipes are resting until… it’s time to remove my makeup cleanse, tone moisturise, you are having a laugh x 3 wipes. That makes a daily total of 76 wipes in just one day!
I am left wondering when, if, how will I ever give baby wipes up? So how do you use yours?

I use re-usable fleece wipes (from usednappies.co.uk). I use less of them because they are much better than disposable wipes (which are designed to make you use more and thus £$£$£$£spend$£$£$£). A couple of hundred wipes reusable wipes cost about £40, I spent that alone on wipes in the first month with my LO. Reusables can go in the wash with nappies and usual washing, come straight out of the washer into the storage tub and are environmentally friendly.
Haha! This post made me laugh so much. I can totally empathise with the wipe useage. Maybe we do need to get on the washable wipe band wagon? I was my nappies, why not wipes I suppose? Well done Claire, nice piece.B.x

Great piece. Sounds really familiar but now my little one is 7 this month we havent had wipes for ages now, although there are plenty of times I have wished I had some! The bit about cleaning the car really made me chuckle as I used to do that too!!!
Great piece
